Emberwild Saga

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Emberwild Saga is an ambitious little RPG that squeezes a full party system and grid-based battles onto a touchscreen without making a mess of it. You build a team of four from a roster of oddball characters, each with their own skill trees, and grind through a story about a fading forest and the people trying to hold it together.

Combat is turn-based and rewards planning. Positioning matters, elemental weaknesses matter, and there's a nice rhythm to setting up a big combo turn. The auto-battle option is there for the easy fights, which I ended up leaning on during grinding, but the boss encounters genuinely made me think.

My one gripe is the inventory management, which gets fiddly once you're juggling dozens of items. Everything else holds up. The writing has real personality, the dungeons are varied, and it respects your time better than most games in the genre.
