Iron Tide Command

★★★★☆ 4.2 Editor rating

Iron Tide Command is a slower, more thoughtful strategy game than the phone usually offers. You manage a small navy, decide where to scout, where to fortify, and when to strike, all on a hex-based sea map that opens up as you explore. There's a lot of quiet plotting between the bursts of action.

The economy loop is well tuned. You balance shipyards, supply lines, and research without ever feeling buried in menus, and the tutorial does a decent job of easing you in. Battles play out semi-automatically once you set formations, so it's more about the decisions before the fight than the fight itself.

It's not flashy, and the presentation is functional rather than gorgeous. But if you like chewing on a strategic problem during a lunch break, this one has surprising staying power. I lost a whole afternoon to a single campaign.
