Strategy games that fit a lunch break
I love a meaty strategy game, but I rarely have an uninterrupted hour on my phone. The genre used to feel off-limits for short play. Lately, though, more designers are building for the bite-sized session, and it's changed how I play.
The key is a save-anywhere design and turns that resolve quickly. Iron Tide Command lets me issue a batch of orders, resolve them, and put the phone away without losing my thread, which is exactly what a lunch break needs.
Watch out for games that hide their strategy behind menus. The best ones present the map clearly so you can size up a situation in seconds. If I have to hunt through three submenus to see my supply lines, the pace collapses.
My routine now is one campaign turn per break, spread across a week. It's a slower way to play, but it turns a commute or a coffee into a satisfying little puzzle, and the campaign still builds momentum.
