Mobile games, played and reviewed

We download, we play, and then we tell you whether a game is worth the space on your phone. From quiet puzzlers to sprawling RPGs, everything here has been through our hands first. This week the team spent a long stretch with Luxora, and we have plenty to say about it.

Why us

We finish the games

No hot takes off a trailer. We play far enough to see how a game holds up once the novelty fades.

Every genre welcome

Puzzles, RPGs, racers, strategy, the odd farming sim. If it runs on a phone, someone here has probably tried it.

Plain talk only

We write the way we'd explain a game to a friend. No jargon walls, no padded word counts.

Luxora
Puzzle

A calm light-and-shadow puzzler where you guide beams through a slowly waking city.

★★★★★ 4.6
Emberwild Saga
RPG

A party-based RPG with tactical combat and a surprisingly good story for a phone game.

★★★★☆ 4.4
Iron Tide Command
Strategy

A naval strategy game about building a fleet and outmaneuvering rivals across an island map.

★★★★☆ 4.2
Neon Drift Rally
Racing

An arcade racer built around long, glowing drifts and one-thumb controls.

★★★★☆ 4.3
Lantern Hollow
Adventure

A story-driven adventure through a misty village full of small mysteries to unravel.

★★★★★ 4.5
Sprout Street Cafe
Simulation

A cozy cafe-building sim about recipes, regulars, and slowly growing your little shop.

★★★★☆ 4.1

Editor’s pick

Emberwild Saga
RPG

Emberwild Saga

★★★★☆ 4.4

Emberwild Saga is an ambitious little RPG that squeezes a full party system and grid-based battles onto a touchscreen without making a mess of it. You build a team of four from a roster of oddball characters, each with their own skill trees, and grind through a story about a fading forest and the people trying to hold it together.

  • Tactical grid combat with real depth
  • Characters you actually grow attached to
  • Auto-battle for the boring fights

Questions & answers

How do you choose which games to review?

We follow what's getting talked about, what readers point us toward, and whatever one of us happens to fall in love with that week. There's no formula beyond curiosity. We cover every genre because our own tastes are scattered, and that keeps things interesting.

Do you get paid to write positive reviews?

No. Nobody pays us to write anything, positive or otherwise, and we buy or download the games ourselves like everyone else. If we ever received something for free to test, we'd say so plainly in the review. Our whole reason for existing is being able to say a game isn't worth your time.

Can I suggest a game for you to review?

Absolutely, and we read every suggestion. Drop us an email with the game and a line about why you think it's worth a look. We can't promise to cover everything, but reader tips have led to some of our favourite write-ups, including the puzzler Luxora we recently spent two weeks with.

Is there advertising on the site?

We keep the site light and don't run intrusive ads or pop-ups. If that ever changes we'll be upfront about it. For now, it's just us, our opinions, and the games we've actually played.
